Overview of China's recent resource deals

China's shopping all over the world for natural resources: petroleum, copper, tropical hardwood, uranium, ethanol, you name it. To do so it sends out President Hu, who travels more than any other head of state on this planet. Jetlags aside, his trips are always a success.

Let's start with the ultimate resource, the magic stuff that powers all things modern: oil.



Until 1995 China was self sufficient when it comes to petroleum production. From that year on it became an importer. China alone accounts for 40% of the world's current growth in petroleum consumption.
